Brief
Shopify variants now support multiple barcodes, search matches any
Shopify now supports multiple barcodes per product variant through a new barcodes connection, and the product and variant search filters now match any barcode on a variant.
Merchants can now store multiple identifiers per variant, such as a manufacturer UPC alongside a private-label EAN, a GTIN, an ISBN, or an ASIN. Each barcode can be typed and is validated against that standard's rules. The first barcode sent is what the existing barcode field returns. The barcode filter on product and variant queries now matches any barcode on a variant. The old barcode field is deprecated but still works.
Our reading
For merchants, this means inventory and marketplace listings can carry multiple identifiers without resorting to metafields, and search by barcode becomes more flexible.
